5B4ES is The English Radio Club. Founded in 1969, the club shack is located in the English School premises in Nicosia.
Sharing explicit popularity amongst the school’s students, the club offers a unique alternative to the intense academic life of the school. The operators, licensed older members, teach the younger members the necessary theory and share with them their technical expertise so that they will also become able operators themselves.
The spectrum of activities of the club includes literally everything a Radio Amateur can do: Contesting, DXing, DXpeditioning and making projects, from antenna switches to BALUNs and aerials. Furthermore, the club is also famous for its barbeque events which take place in the shack’s yard with every opportunity. Indeed, this happens often as the club is particularly successful at contesting.

You probably know what the Amateur Radio hobby normally requires such as big aerials, antenna permits, expensive hardware and an abundance of sun spots. Perhaps you live in a block of flats where Amateur Radio is impossible. Well, this Ham Radio software will get you the real Amateur Radio feeling without those things. You will be able to work that DX country on the other side of the world that you always dreamt of working.

Scouts from around the world use Amateur Radio for an international conversation during this event in October each year.
What is JOTA?
When Scouts want to meet young people from another country, they usually think of attending a World Jamboree. But few people realize that each year more than 400,000 Scouts and Guides "get together" over the airwaves for the annual Jamboree-on-the-Air (JOTA). Modern technology offers Scouts the exciting opportunity to make friends in other countries without leaving home. JOTA is an annual event in which Boy and Girl Scouts and Guides from all over the world speak to each other by means of Amateur Radio. Scouting experiences are exchanged and ideas are shared via radio waves. Since 1958 when the first Jamboree-on-the-Air was held, millions of Scouts have met each other through this event. Many contacts made during JOTA have resulted in pen pals and links between Scout troops that have lasted many years. With no restrictions on age or on the number of participants, and at little or no expense, JOTA allows Scouts to contact each other by ham radio. The radio stations are operated by licensed amateur radio operators. Many Scouts and leaders hold licenses and have their own stations, but the majority participate in JOTA through stations

Hans Sundgren, SM5SVM, has developed an online flash game simulating radio orienteering on the 144MHz band and using a Yagi antenna. It can be used as a nice tool to demonstrate ARDF or for just plain fun.
