The Cyprus Amateur Radio Society is the National Body of Amateur Radio in Cyprus. Registered since 1975, it is one of the very first societies registered in the Republic of Cyprus.

CARS acts as the direct interface between radio amateurs in Cyprus and the Ministry of Communications and Works, the Cyprus Organization for the Promotion of Quality and other government and non-government organizations.

In every day life many people belong to associations, some because the law requires it and others because of the  benefits that accrue to individuals and the profession, sport or hobby. Some of the most important functions CARS performs include:

  • Representation of all radio amateurs when working with  the authorities to ensure that the amateur spectrum is protected. It is the number of members that gives CARS the muscle to speak representatively.
  • Is a member and participates actively in the functions of the International Amateur Radio Union (IARU), representing Radio Amateurs at the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), the organization that looks after frequency spectrum allocation and usage. The IARU works constantly at World Radio Conferences and behind the scenes to ensure that amateur allocations are protected and even expanded. The IARU derives its muscle from National Members Societies, such as CARS, who have strong representation in their country.
  • Through a regularly updated website, carefully filtered email bulletins, and regularly upgraded and serviced voice and digital repeaters, CARS keeps Radio Amateurs in contact and at breast of new technologies.
