EVENTS
2007 IOTA DXpedition
The Nicosia Club C4MG (5B4KH 5B4MF 5B4XF 5B4AHZ 5B8AP
SV1JG) made a dxpedition to Agios
Georgios Island (AS120) during the IOTA contest 29 and 30 July 2007, and a day
or two before. It is worth mentioning that this dxpedition was presented by
SIGMA television during the main evening news bulletin on 29th.
Akamas DXpedition
The Lemesos Section activated P3CA on 8 July 2007. Manos 5B4AFQ reports:
Departure :3:00 am Nicosia 4:15 am Limassol
Radio Amateurs : 5B4AFQ 5B8AP 5B4XB 5B8BE
Location : Akamas Lighthouse
Duration : 32 hours
Actual operation time : 11 hours /
Contacts : 235 (50mhz) , 193 (18mhz) , 309 (14mhz) , 302 (28mhz)., 25< (144mhz )
Hf Radios Icom 7400 pro 100w + Yaesu 897
Hf Antennas Cushcraft R8 , Budipole. Vhf Antennas 10el Jbeam + Colinear Vertical
Power source Generator / Battery
Operators : HF Single.
Operators VHF Single.
Arrived on site at 8:00 am and started operation on 9:15 , Vhf propagation was
quite disappointing so we thought of keeping busy ourselves until VHF gets
better , 14Mhz were booming so we started . As the day was becoming hotter other
bands were opening and pileups for P3CA were becoming common. The lighthouse
provides shelter and excellent working conditions for DXing however special
permission is needed from the Paphos Port Authorities to operate from there. I
actually recommend to sent the request a few months before for the permission to
arrive at the right time.
Plenty of water and nuclear anti mosquito sprays are recommended , winds were
moderate to high therefore proper support for antennas is important.
Sea conditions were calm so I guess this is good news to the IOTA guys ( unless
weather changes dramatically the next days ). One small generator and 10 LTr of
fuel proved more than enough for the whole event. The Lighthouse is divided in
two large rooms and a smaller one which is ideal for multiple operations.
Sanitary , electricity and water facilities are not available. Steep cliffs and
rocky terrain make the route impossible to anything less than a good 4x4. We DO
not recommend this location for single person operation , visiting on low light
conditions is extremely dangerous.
What started to be as a VHF contest participation endet up to something else but
the most important is that everyone had an excellent time.

Mini Field Day 5th June
2005
Limassol, organised by Manos 5B4AFQ
"I would like to thank 5B4AEZ , 5B8BE , 5B8AP for joining our mini field day. Fortunately the 6m band kept us quite busy booming all day long.
It was an excellent experience working many stations from Central and Eastern Europe , Egypt , Israel , Africa. The 2m ssb band was pretty much
quiet."

Mini Field Day 8th May
2005
Limassol, organised by Manos 5B4AFQ
"Mini portable field-day was really fun , ( other than eating lots of dust , and risking our life from the dangling antenna that was bending
left and right from the strong winds ) . After 500 QSOs on 7, 14 and 21 Mhz we decided to call it a day and continue with experiments. After all this was not all about dxing …. Equipment : Icom 746-pro – Icom 706mk2g , antenna Cushcraft R8 on a telescopic Clark Mast & 80m long wire."
